There is beauty all around....

We started the month of June with a trip to Utah for our granddaughter Makaila's wedding. They were married in the Payson, Utah temple and it was so beautiful. It was wonderful being together with all of our kids and grandkids at the same time. That has not happened in many years and it will happen twice this year as our son Travis is getting married in September. The hard part of seeing them is leaving but we know we will see them again soon.

We had more visitors this month which is always fun. Mike's sister Peggy and Dave stopped by on their way back to Washington from Arizona. We went to lunch and it was nice to visit with them. That day it was in the 90's so it had cooled down considerably. They said it felt nice as it gets up to 120 where they live. I felt kind of wimpy after hearing that but I think our 108 degree weather is enough to make most people wilt (although one day last week when we got in the truck it said 120). Thank goodness for air conditioning! This week we will be getting air conditioning in the house at Durham that we have been remodeling and we are looking forward to that.

We are in charge of checking handcarts in and out as the different Stakes go on trek. It takes a fair amount of time to make sure everything is in working order. We have 40 handcarts, three trailers and one water tank. It is a busy time for these leaders as they give this choice experience to their youth. For the month of June we have checked them out and in three times but as the summer progresses it will get busier.

We have started working on a new project. We are fixing up a small scale house. So far we have put in two new windows and an air conditioner. Next we will finish off the inside. This is a before picture.

Our neighbors cat had 6 kittens in our flower bed and it has been fun seeing them progress and start to toddle about. They are three weeks old now and will soon start to eat solid food.  They all have homes waiting on them.

Elder Dever on the lookout

To celebrate the 4th of July weekend we went to Lassen Volcanic National Park with Elder and Sister Krum. We always enjoy getting together with them and we had a nice day seeing the beautiful sites and having lunch. We are happy to have another couple here that we can share fun and work experiences with. You cannot get together with the Krum's and not have a good time.

This month we got two houses ready for new families. The rest of the month we worked on the Durham house, continuing to replace dry rot and chase all sorts of bugs out of their comfy homes. We are coming to an end of that part of the project and will start putting up siding, then on to finishing the inside.

We had a wonderful employee appreciation day with the theme Super Heroes. There was Super Hero training for the kids, a bounce house, rock climbing wall, trampoline, cotton candy and snow cones, a wonderful luncheon and a 5 K race, all free with lots of prizes. Everyone had a good time. It is fun getting together with everyone and their families and enjoy the camaraderie. We met the family who will be living in the house we are fixing up and it makes us want to work even faster.

We love living and working in Chico. We had friends from Chico visit our Bainbridge Island Ward and they told us how beautiful it is there. We have not forgotten and do miss our friends at home. Love to you all! We also just had the Bishop and his wife visit Chico from the Pearl Harbor Ward and they told us how much they love having the Bentley's in their ward and what a great job they are doing on their mission. Small world!
